Part of Leeds' independent jazz and experimental music scene, Ferg’s Imaginary Big Band has paved their way with relentless enthusiasm and punk ethos, earning them a reputation for explosive live performances that drag big band music kicking and screaming into the 21st Century and beyond.

Ever-growing in size, the 25+ member ensemble (including members of Awen Ensemble, Ancient Infinity Orchestra, Plantfood & KOG) is a who’s who of the North’s jazz and improvised music scene. Known for expansive and immersive arrangements, the band takes inspiration from a wide tapestry of influences; from The Sun Ra Arkestra, Duke Ellington and Count Basie, to Bowling, Godzilla and Mexican-American restaurants.

Following the release of 2024’s Live at Lancaster Jazz Festival, the band toured nationally throughout 2025. Highlights included sold-out performances at Ronnie Scott’s, The Vortex and Howard Assembly Rooms, as well as appearances at Love Supreme Festival and the London, Manchester and Leeds Jazz Festivals.

The band were winners of the 2023 Peter Whittingham Jazz Award, are part of Jazz North’s 2025 Northern Line programme, and were nominated for the 2025 Jazz FM Innovation Award.

They now turn their attention to their third album, releasing this summer via Trash City Records.
